The composers featured on this concert have one very important connection: all but one composed extensively for the theater. Ranging from incidental music for plays, to the operatic stage and to movie scores, these composers all had a flair for the dramatic. Vivaldi, the great Italian Baroque violinist and composer, wrote 50 operas and was often known to perform one of his many violin concerti between the acts of his operas. The famous English composer Henry Purcell wrote numerous pieces to accompany theatrical presentations, Pasqual Marquina was a well-known composer of Spanish operas, and, of course, Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, and Alan Silvestri are world-famous for their respective scores for musical theater and movies. Join Strings Con Brio for an evening of glorious music by some of the world’s most celebrated theatrical composers.
